Filled up on cheese, chocolate, and tea December 30th, 2006

Dawn Lam dropped by tonight so her and ally sat around and talked while I stuffed my face with chocolate, cheese, and tea. Now I’m watching Rundown with the Rock, Christopher Walken, Rosario Dawson, and Stiffler. I have to admit, the Rock is fun to watch, regardless of how bad the movie itself is.

Check this link out for Unconventional Military hand signals. I haven’t laughed this hard all christmas!

BattleStar G Marathon December 28th, 2006

My sister Leeann’s back from the east coast for the winter break and has brought back season 1 and 2 of Battlestar Galactica. I’ve been wanting to get into the TV series for awhile so today we kicked off the beginning of the BG marathon. We managed to get in about 7 episodes today. That’s approximately 5 hours of TV time. By the end, my ass was sore, head felt funny, and was generally queezy from Lindt chocolate, super spicy butter chicken curry from Simply Curries (thanks to the sister), pumpkin seeds from halloween, and Barq’s root beer. Round 2 for BG, Friday. w00t!

Not much work getting done December 26th, 2006

Had an enormous Christmas Dinner tonight with the Chia/Chang family. Turkey, Beef, Ham, meat pies, shepherd pies, etc. You get the idea. I stuffed my face to the point where I had to walk around holding my belly like an old man. Went to see my Grandma earlier today at the carehome. So not much work has been getting done. I really need to define a marketing plan for unbi.us now that it’s online. I’m hoping to have that done before the new year so I can begin executing as soon as 2007 rolls around.

Merry Christmas all y’all December 25th, 2006

Hope you get everything you’re hoping for under the tree and in your stockings. I got a sweet pair of slippers that will keep my feet warm all day long. Thanks Ally. Did last minute christmas shopping today with the family. It’s hard to shop for them so we now just all go to the mall and point out what we want to each other. If by the end of the day, we still haven’t found what we wanted, then everyone just gets cash. This year we all get cash. Ahh, nothing like christmas red pockets of joy!

Skippers n Crab Pot December 23rd, 2006

Drove out to Seattle today with Ally, Roy, and his girlfriend Fern. On the way we stopped at Skippers in Bellingham for clam chowder and fish n chips. Like most things, Skippers was worse than how I had remembered it when I was a kid. We got to Seattle in good time and walked around Pike Place Market. We parked right outside the first starbucks store. evAR! We didn’t know until we saw the sign inside. That is a huge piece of modern history i think.

Then we met Jason and Candida at the Crab Pot on Pier 57. We had 3 kinds of crab (dungeness, snow, and alaskan king), oysters, mussels, clams, salmon, halibut, potatoes, and corn all dumped onto our table. We had bibs tied around necks, mallots in hand, shell buckets at our feet. Ahh, seafood bliss.

Being Dave To is feeling bad about my CO2 emissions December 22nd, 2006

Watched Inconvenient Truth today. Al Gore makes a very compelling argument about where this world is headed given our current CO2 emissions. We’re talking very noticeable changes in our landscape within the next 50 years. That’s during my lifetime! which is a wake-up call because normally when I think about global warming, I selfishly think the bad shit will really take affect when i’m long dead. Maybe my next car will be a hybrid.

The other thing I was really impressed with is how Al Gore has made this his mission in life. Furthermore, he’s got the persona and the ability to use effective media channels to really get the message into the public consciousness. I think in this case, a single person’s voice can alter the course of the world. Some crazy stuff.

Unbius is up and about to go into Beta December 21st, 2006

Spent the day tweaking the live Unbius site. Added better subdomain support, SEO-friendly URLs, Hacker-proofed the display fields, and created a favicon.ico (don’t like it very much tho). I think I’m going to freeze the development and focus on content and marketing now. According to Wikipedia,

A beta version or beta release usually represents the first version of a computer program that implements all features in the initial requirements analysis. It is likely to be useful for internal demonstrations and previews to select customers, but unstable and not yet ready for release.

In my case, it’s an open beta so feel free to go in and poke around. don’t worry about adding test content as I’ll be doing periodic housecleaning. Let me know what you think of the site concept and how intuitive it feels. Any input is very welcome.

Being Dave To is having very sore legs December 20th, 2006

After the Whistler adventure, my legs have been aching like mad. Ally and Amelia are also sore from their full day on the mountain. So what else to do but get a massage! Unfortunately, all of the standard places within our budget were either closed or booked solid. Then we stumbled upon the Therapeutic section of craigslist. We’ve had sketchy experiences with this before. One time we were looking for a good Thai massage and found this place in Yaletown. When I called, they told me it was an apartment building and I had to buzz a certain number to get in. I googled their service and found this forum full of dirty bastards talking about the kinds of ’services’ they offered at this Yaletown joint.

There was one ad in Craigslist that seemed alright. I called it up and confirmed that this was a NON-SEXUAL massage. Ally, Amelia, and I went to check it out. It was a lady operating out of her townhouse. She was older, probably mid-to-late 40s. Turned out there is no happy-ending. This was 1 hour of serious, deep-tissue massage. If you have muscle pains, I’d recommend her. She’s Kathy and this is her ad on Craigslist.
